Healthy Back Programme saves employers money
In a recent randomised controlled trial with 150 NHS employees (publication in-press), those employees who practised the Healthy Back Programme over a six month period experienced far fewer sickness absence days due to back pain and musculoskeletal conditions than a control group. In this Bangor University study, employees practising the Healthy Back Programme missed only 2 days due to back pain and musculoskeletal conditions compared with 43 days missed in the control group. This difference in sickness absence days saved the NHS approximately £6,000. If 15,000 NHS employees were to practise the Healthy Back Programme for six months, the NHS could conceivably save £600,000.
